Edinburgh Zoo is a delightful family day out nestled in the heart of Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh. Getting There by Public Transport:
Traveling to Edinburgh Zoo via public transport is a convenient option for those looking to minimize their environmental impact and avoid parking hassles. The zoo is well-served by bus routes, with stops conveniently located nearby, providing easy access from various parts of the city. Additionally, Haymarket Train Station is within walking distance of the zoo, offering a convenient rail connection for visitors arriving from farther afield.
Animals at the Zoo:
As we stepped into the vibrant world of Edinburgh Zoo, excitement tingled in the air. Passing through the welcoming archway, we found ourselves amidst the lively hustle and bustle of animal enthusiasts. Our first stop? We head straight to the top of the hill to the majestic giraffe enclosure, where these gentle giants gracefully roamed, their long necks reaching for the heavens. The thing I like least about the zoo is the giant hill – as the kids get more tired through the day we always push right to the top so it’s down hill for the rest of the day! That way we also get to finish at the penguins – conveniently close to a coffee source!
Accessibility within the Zoo:
Edinburgh Zoo prides itself on providing a welcoming and accessible environment for visitors of all ages and abilities. With two well-equipped play parks catering to the needs of young children and older kids alike, families can enjoy a variety of recreational activities while exploring the zoo’s expansive grounds. The park’s pushchair-friendly layout, complete with ramps conveniently located throughout, ensures easy navigation for parents with young ones in tow. As I mentioned before – the zoo is on a significant slope and the hills can be tough with a buggy. Whilst there is meant to be a ‘land train’ – we personally have never seen it running on our visits and families may find it slightly challenging to cover the entire park, especially if their little ones lack the stamina for a full day of exploration. Nonetheless, Edinburgh Zoo remains committed to providing an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all visitors, ensuring that everyone can partake in the wonder of the animal kingdom.
Admission prices:
For an adventure-packed day at Edinburgh Zoo, admission prices range from £15.25 to £29.50, with discounts available for online bookings in advance. Children under three enjoy complimentary entry, making it a budget-friendly outing for families with little ones. Additionally, car parking is available on-site for an additional £3 fee.
