Indulge your sweet tooth and embark on a chocolate-filled adventure at Edinburgh’s Chocolatarium, an enchanting destination just off the historic Royal Mile. From tasting to creating your own chocolate masterpiece, this 90-minute experience promises a delightful journey through the world of chocolate – perfect for families seeking a scrumptious outing in the heart of the city. Kate first visited here for a friend’s birthday party and then later revisited with her Guide Unit. She came away raving about it so perhaps unsurprisingly – Thomas also has a birthday planned for there. With the rain STILL falling, I thought it would be rude not to also check it out myself as this seems like the perfect option for rainy days in Edinburgh with kids!
Chocolate Making Magic
At the heart of the Chocolatarium experience lies the journey of chocolate making. Led by friendly guides, visitors of all ages are immersed in the fascinating process of transforming cocoa beans into delectable treats. From roasting and grinding to tempering and molding, each step is a feast for the senses, offering a hands-on learning opportunity that’s as educational as it is enjoyable.
Creative Chocolate Adventures
One of the highlights of our visit was the chance to become chocolatiers for the day. Armed with an array of toppings and molds, we let our imaginations run wild as we crafted our own chocolate bars – Kate stayed on theme and produced Harry Potter inspired chocolate whilst I couldn’t resist trying to craft my own coffee inspired treat. From classic combinations like milk chocolate and salted caramel to more adventurous flavors like haggis and gin, there’s something to suit every palate.
Family Fun for Everyone
What sets the Chocolatarium apart is its appeal to visitors of all ages. While the chocolate-making activities are undeniably entertaining for kids, it wasn’t just families – I was pleasantly surprised to see adults eagerly joining in the fun. So, whether you’re bonding with your little ones over chocolate creations or indulging your own sweet tooth, there’s a sense of joy and camaraderie that permeates the entire experience.
Sweet Surprises and Sensory Delights
As we explored the tasting room, we found over 40 varieties of Scottish and international chocolates to sample, each bite was a revelation of flavor and texture. From rich dark chocolates to creamy milk varieties, the tasting experience was a delicious adventure that left us craving more. We thought that shop the was immense – and well worth a visit even if you haven’t got a tour booked.
If you’re looking for something to entertain the kids on a rainy day in Edinburgh – I’d recommend booking ahead!
