A Tradition of Enchantment

The Edinburgh International Children’s Festival is more than just a series of performances – it’s a journey into the realm of imagination. From the moment you step foot into the festival grounds, you’ll be transported to a world where anything is possible. Whether you’re a seasoned attendee or a first-time visitor, there’s something undeniably magical about the atmosphere that permeates the festival.

Family Encounters at the National Museum

The festival kicks off with Family Encounters at the National Museum of Scotland, offering a taste of what’s to come. From interactive performances to captivating storytelling sessions, families can immerse themselves in a world of creativity and wonder. It’s the perfect opportunity to bond with loved ones and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime. We’d advise trying to arrive early (for 10am so not that early!) – we went back in 2022 and the crowds picked up quick!

Global Showcase of Creativity

Since its inception in 1990, the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival has evolved into a global showcase of creativity and innovation. Featuring performances from some of the world’s most renowned theatre and dance companies, the festival offers a diverse range of experiences for audiences of all ages. With over 10,000 attendees each year, it’s clear that this festival holds a special place in the hearts of families everywhere.

    Inclusivity and Accessibility

One of the festival’s core values is its commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. Every effort is made to ensure that children from all backgrounds and abilities can participate in the festivities. From wheelchair-accessible venues to BSL-interpreted performances, the festival strives to create a welcoming environment where every child can experience the magic of live theatre.

      A Journey of Discovery

Whether you’re interested in circus, dance, storytelling, or theatre, you’re sure to find something that captures your imagination. Be sure to plan ahead and book your tickets early to avoid missing out on your favourite performances – we first fell in love with the festival back in 2019 and still haven’t seen anything that has beaten Small Wonders!

        Spotlight on Catalonia

This year, the festival shines a spotlight on Catalonia, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of this vibrant region. From traditional folk tales to contemporary dance performances, audiences can immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of Catalonia’s unique artistic landscape. It’s an opportunity to broaden your horizons and experience something truly special.

          Homegrown Talent Shines

In addition to international offerings, the festival also showcases the talents of Scottish companies, with two brand new works set to premiere this year. It’s a testament to the wealth of creative talent that exists right here in Scotland, and an opportunity to support local artists as they share their stories with the world. Don’t miss the chance to witness the next generation of Scottish theatre and dance talent in action.
