Edinburgh, the vibrant capital of Scotland, is brimming with fantastic play parks that cater to the needs and imaginations of children. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, finding the best playpark for your little ones can be a delightful challenge. In this article, we will explore some of the top play parks in Edinburgh that promise endless fun and excitement for kids of all ages.

1. The Meadows

Situated near the city center, The Meadows is a sprawling green space that offers an array of recreational activities for children. The park features multiple play areas with slides, climbing frames, a zip line, and swings. There’s a sandy area for smaller children, and a more complex structure offering older children a great challenge – ensuring endless hours of entertainment. Families can also enjoy picnics and leisurely walks amidst the beautiful surroundings, or take a more active approach by utilising the tennis courts or near by Bruntsfield Golf Links. The Meadows’ central location and diverse amenities make it a popular choice among locals and tourists alike.

2. Saughton Park

Aside from boasting an impressive playpark, Saughton Park is home to a magnificent walled garden, showcasing a wide variety of flowers and trees, creating a visually stunning place to explore. The winter green houses provide a warm place to pause of a chilly day – or a good place to dodge the rain! For more active kids, the main attraction of Saughton Park has to be the skate part which is often filled with skateboards and scooters alike. Whilst there are some really challenging features, there’s also some gentle ramps that are perfect for beginners as well.

3. Lauriston Castle Gardens

Lauriston Castle Gardens is a hidden gem that offers a different play experience. Whilst it doesn’t have traditional playground equipment, children are free to explore the wooded areas – climbing trees and building dens. It’s also home to the Japenese Gardens which has its own stream with stepping stones and the best island from which to play pirates! Although I’d say the ‘castle’ is more of a large house, there are a number of family-friendly walks around the gardens with picturesque views across the forth – making it a perfect day out for the family.

4.Dalkeith Country Park

Further outside of the city, Dalkeith Country Park, or specifically Fort Douglas, is an excellent destination for children due to abundance of activities throughout the year. The park offers an impressive outdoor adventure playground where kids can unleash their imaginations and have endless fun. With a wide range of climbing frames, slides, and rope bridges, children are encouraged to explore, climb, and interact tight their surrounds. The beautiful natural setting also allows kids to connect with nature and have a chance to appreciate the great outdoors.

Edinburgh is home to numerous play parks that cater to the diverse interests and imaginations of young children. From the expansive Meadows to the adventurous Royal Botanic Garden Adventure Park, each play area offers unique experiences that combine fun with the city’s natural beauty. Whether exploring Lauriston Castle Gardens or enjoying animal encounters at Gorgie City Farm, families are guaranteed a day filled with laughter and unforgettable memories. Edinburgh’s best kids playparks are waiting to be discovered, promising endless fun for children of all ages.
