With social distancing firmly in place and clear goverment advice telling us to stay home, this is a great time to pamper your car. While most of us are not mechanics, there are small things we can all do to ensure that our vehicles are kept in good working order.

So, here are 3 ways that you can care for your car at home.

Clean your car

Cleaning your car can really help you notice if there is something wrong with your vehicle. General wear and tear can be minor and very easily missed. However, slowing down and paying attention as you clean will help you see if something is amiss. Is the wiper rubber torn? Are your headlamps ok? Do your wheels have any damage? Are there any cuts on the side walls of your tyres?

These are all small things which are easy to fix. If left for too long though, they can cause real issues for your car in the long term.

Check your tyres

Both Stirling and Edinburgh come with their own driving challenges, whether its roadworks, crowded car parks with high curbs or uneven roads. All of these things can have a real impact on your tyres so it’s worth finding a local tyre fitter in your area. Fife Autocentre (01592 631211) in Stirling can support you for all your tyre related needs.

There are things that you can still do while at home though. We should all be checking that our tyres have at least 1.6 mm of tread on them but there are other things we can look for too.

Check each tyre for:

  • bald spots
  • bulges
  • cuts
  • uneven tyre wear

You can also check tyre pressure with a gauge if you have access to one. If not, simply examine each tyre to assess if they look flat.

Move your car

If you’re not using your car for an extended period of time, then you may need to move your vehicle. If left in one place for an extended period of time, your tyres could develop a flat spot. You can avoid this easily by simply moving your car a few meters. This allows the weight to rest in a different position.

So there we have it: three ways that you can car for your car at home. These three simple things will help ensure that when the travel restrictions life, your car will be as ready as you are.
