Taigh Tŷ Teach (meaning ‘house’ in Gaelic, Irish, and Welsh) is a powerful tri-lingual theatre work created by three acclaimed writers—Màiri Morrison (Gaelic), Eva O’Connor (Irish), and Mared Llywelyn Williams (Welsh). Through four riveting stories, it explores the deep impact of the housing crisis on families, communities, and language across Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.
This co-production between Theatre Gu Leòr (Scotland’s leading Gaelic theatre company), Olivier Award-winning Fishamble (Ireland), and Theatr Bara Caws (Wales) is directed by Muireann Kelly and features a stellar cast of nine actors who perform the music live on stage.
Following its original 2024 intimate performances at special off-site locations, Taigh Tŷ Teach is now reaching wider audiences through a filmed version. The film premiered at Grinneabhat, a community cultural centre in Bragar, Lewis—also the primary school of Gaelic writer Màiri Morrison—and is now touring key Hebridean venues including An Crùbh (Skye), Taigh Chearsabhagh (Lochmaddy), Cnoc Soilleir (South Uist), Talla Chille Mhoire (Skye), and Castlebay Community Hall (Barra).
Each screening is designed as more than just a viewing; audiences are invited to join in post-show discussions featuring Màiri Morrison and local voices, accompanied by fresh coffee, food, and conversation prompts to foster community dialogue.

Theatre Gu Leòr Creative Director Seona McClintock highlights the importance of this tour in connecting with Gaelic-speaking island communities, despite the logistical challenges posed by costs and weather. Their commitment to “slow touring” and climate-conscious travel ensures this vital storytelling reaches even remote audiences while minimising environmental impact.
Supported by Creative Scotland and Bòrd na Gàidhlig, Taigh Tŷ Teach powerfully captures shared stories at the heart of language, home, and belonging—and invites audiences across the Hebrides to experience this moving theatrical journey together.
