Kelly–Anne is 28 year old mother to one – her cheeky little lady Amelia. Married to the lovely Tony, they have set up their forever home in the beautiful countryside of Norfolk. Kelly-Anne first launched Mimi Rose & Me as a way to keep her ‘brain from turning to complete mush’ whilst on maternity leave. But thankfully for her, she fell in love with blogging and documenting how her life has changed as a mother. Focused on being the best that she can be – my favourite philosophy – Kelly-Anne writes about life with her beautiful family and all the fun life brings…
What is your daily skincare routine?
First thing in the morning I will drink a fresh glass of cold water and then head back upstairs to wash my face with Soap and Glory’s 3-in-1 Daily Cleanser Vitamin C Wash. Then I will follow my wash with a moisturiser and currently I am using The Body Shop’s Aloe Vera Soothing Daily Cream. Then depending on whether it’s a pj day or get up and get out kind of day, I will then start putting my make-up on. We all know sleeping in our make-up is bad, but we are busy people and sometimes we crash out. But it always a good thing to take the time to make sure all traces are off your face to prevent clogged pores, break-outs, irritation and rough skin and even more importantly premature signs of ageing skin. I have come across quite a few make-up removers in my time, cleansers, oils, creams and more recently micellar waters. For me, my favourite is from Garnier and lasts ages. But I also like Clinque’s Take The Day off Cleansing Balm and I have only used it a few times but already I can tell it’s going to be a favourite! Then I use my new all time fave cleanser, the Ren Clear Calm Clay Cleanser, great for sensitive skin, it’s calming and really helps keep breakouts at bay. My skin has been so much clearer since using this and may I say my pores are smaller too! Then I will use The Body Shop’s Aloe Vera Soothing Night cream.
Do you wear make-up? What’s your routine?
I do indeed wear make up. In fact, I am one of these people who can’t leave the house without it. After I’ve finished my skincare routine, I like to use a primer. A primer can help make your pores smaller, soften your skin, helps your make-up look better. I have been using this fantastic Primer from L’Oréal Paris it’s a fantastic product and does exactly what it’s set out to do and you can even wear this with or without make up, this primer gives you a real glow and feels lovely on your skin. It is so important to get the perfect match when it comes to foundation, not only for your skin tone but when it comes to your skin type. With my chosen foundation (I have so many) I will dab the product onto the face with my foundation brush and blend. I never wear the same foundation because some days I will feel like wearing light to no coverage and other days I will build up my coverage. I also like to add concealer to my eyes Benefits Boing Concealer is really amazing. After creating base its time for bronzing or contouring Benefit Hoola Bronzer is the one for me at the moment. Then I will get my neutral eye shadow on with the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette it’s just so versatile with the different mattes, pearls and glimmering metallic, from pale shimmery pinks to deep, warm black. Then I will then use my Benefit Roller Lash Curling Mascara to give my eyes more definition and – that’s it, unless I am feeling really fancy I’ll add an eyeliner. Then it’s time for brows. My favourite way to apply my eyebrows are with powders as I am able to fill in my sparse eyebrows and build them up gradually so that they appear natural. I like to use Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo
What do you do to style and care for your hair?
If I am not rocking the mum bun, I will literally shampoo, conditioner, blow dry and straighten! However if I am feeling fancy I may curl my hair with light waves and finish with a shine spray.
What’s your go-to ‘everyday’ outfit?
My everyday outfit is a pair of leggings and a top – a jumper, vest or t-shirt depending on the weather. It’s extremely boring, but comfortable
Where do you shop?
My favourite shops to buy clothes from are ASOS, Dorothy Perkins, Boo Hoo, New Look, H&M and Select, which reminds me my wardrobe needs a serious update.
Do you have an all-time favourite item of clothing?
I have a beautiful black and white dress which I absolutely adore. It was only £10 from Primark, but it can be dressed up with heels, curls and clutch or dressed down with flip flops! I also like it because it makes me feel skinny.
What was the most expensive item of clothing you’ve ever bought?
Without a doubt my wedding dress. However, I have yet to find another occasion to wear it!
How do you change your look for a date night?
Heels and black skinny jeans are a must for date night, my husband is 6ft 3 and I am 5ft 1 so wearing heels takes me up to his height a little bit. Normally I will pair a lovely blouse and carry a clutch.
What’s your favourite thing about being a Mum?
I just love being able to spend time with this little lady, she is just cute! I have to say that my daughter has made me a better person, she has given me a purpose and has made me realise what is really important in life. I know that being a mum to my beautiful little girl inspires me to want to be an even better person. Being a parent you are faced with many challenges, some that you thought you could never endure, but because of my daughter I now know that I am more confident in my abilities and less likely to give up even when everything in my mind tells me to. Even if this sounds a little corny being a mum to my daughter has made me feel as if I can do anything and to always show gratitude to the simple things in life. I will continue my journey in motherhood knowing that my daughter makes me a better person and she reminds me of that everyday in all her cuddles.
Speaking of children, how do you like to dress your daughter?
I do have to have to say that my daughter has a better wardrobe than me but most of all, I adore dressing her in cute dresses. My little girl is sooooo girly it’s unbelievable. Either that or a short and tights combo looks pretty adorable on her.
Can you think of an occasion that you felt the most beautiful?
Without a doubt it would be my wedding day. I had my hair and makeup done professionally, champagne, and even dressers. Haha. I couldn’t get my wedding dress on without help. I felt like a princess. For me, walking towards my husband and for him to say I looked beautiful at altar was amazing.
Is there anything you want to change about your style?
I wish I could venture out of the legging and tees combo, now that my little lady will be going to nursery I think I’ll have a little more time to make more of an effort and to be more adventurous when it comes to style.
If you’re having a tough day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
If I am having a tough day I will always tell my husband and as soon as he comes home he will always try to make me feel better. This can be flowers, chocolates or running me a lovely bubble bath with candles.
Thank you, Kelly-Anne!
