Oh My Blog is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have heard of before, and learn a little more about them!
This month, the theme is Mums (because it’s Mother’s Day tomorrow!) and I’m hosting Laura from Five Little Doves. She is such an amazing blogger with a truly beautiful family. I’m basically her stalker on Instagram and feel like I’ve really got to know her family through her honest and open writing. I’m very lucky to have been assigned her answers so please do check our her blog!
Introduce us to your mum. What’s her name? What does she do? Reveal her age if you dare!
My Mums name is Heather, she is 62, a retired teacher and as far as Mums go, she’s the best.
What’s the one thing your mum always used to say to you?
“Don’t fret!”, it’s a running joke that she will say it about every situation, even the ones where the only one fretting is her!!
Someone’s playing your mum in a film. Who is it and why?
Julie Walters. She doesn’t particularly look like my mum but my mum is a huge fan and she reminds me of my mum because of that reason.
She’s won the lottery. What’s the first thing your mum buys for herself?
Gosh, for herself? She is way more likely to buy for someone else. I think the first thing they would buy is a bungalow. They’ve said for years they’d like to move to one and yet never have.
What embarrassing story about you does she always tell when you meet new people?
The time when I was younger and my Dad said to me, “Oh Laura, you’re going to break so many boys hearts when you grow up!”. And I had turned round to him and said, “I’ll break their arms and legs too!”.
What are your plans for Mother’s Day this year?
We haven’t made any yet but it will involve going to visit my Mum and perhaps a big Sunday dinner with all of us. I hope it involves a lie-in!
What’s her favourite TV show at the moment?
She’s always been a big fan of Emmerdale and Coronation street!
What’s the biggest or most important thing that your mum inspired you to do?
To be the best parent I can be to my children. My Mum tried so hard to be a good Mum, and she was, but she is also honest about her mistakes and I think I have learned a lot from the mistakes she made, which have inspired me to be the best I can be.
Your round at the bar! What’s your mum drinking?
A rose wine, she’s not a big drinker but loves a glass of wine!
What’s the biggest different between you and your mum?
Hmm, difficult one, I think we are both very similar which is difficult at times as we clash! She is way more forgiving whereas I am very stubborn. I can hold a grudge for years whereas she will let things go far easier.
Most important question of the lot. What is your mum’s stance on 50 Shades of Grey? Does she love it? Hate it? Not even know what it is?
We’ve never actually discussed it. I think she is oblivious to it all! Or perhaps not…now there’s a scary thought!
What’s your favourite memory of your mum?
The day that I had Lewis, my eldest, and she came rushing into the hospital when he was just minutes old. I felt as though I had finally paid her back for the hell I had put her through.
What do you think your mum was like as a kid?
By all accounts she was very academic and very well behaved.
Cast your mind back a bit; what was the thing you did as a child or teenager that made your mum the angriest she has ever been with you?
Oh god, way too many to mention! Maybe the time I drank an entire bottle of Ouzo on holiday in Spain, aged 14, and came staggering back to the caravan projectile vomiting before passing out unconscious! I think she was pretty angry then…!!
Finally, what’s the BEST piece of advice your mum ever gave to you?
Do what makes you happy. I think that’s the best advice anyone can give.
